Participation in the “Advanced training of scientific and pedagogical personnel on full-scale simulators (FSS) of nuclear power units VVER-440 and VVER-1000 at the  Training Center of the branch of “SD “Rivne NPP” JSC “NAEK “ENERGOATOM”

Within the implementation of Work Package 2 of the EURATOM project (The Euroatom research and Training Programme (2021-2025)) “NURECAB.EU-UA Nuclear Research and Education Capacity Building” and at the invitation of the Executive Director for Personnel of JSC “NAEK “ENERGOATOM”, the Head of the Department of Nuclear and High Energy Physics, Prof. Igor KADENKO, during July 27-31, 2026, underwent training on the topic “Advanced training of scientific and pedagogical personnel on full-scale simulators (FSS) of nuclear power units VVER-440 and VVER-1000 at the Training Center of the branch of “SD “Rivne NPP” JSC “NAEK “ENERGOATOM”.

The training was carried out in accordance with the program with the support of the Training Center instructors, with whom trainees worked during the week on the following topics:

  • working out accident scenarios at power unit No. 1 “flow from the first circuit to the second” by modeling PMT-440;
  • finding conditions for entering VFC procedures at the VVER-440 power unit operating at capacity in order to preserve the critical safety function “integrity” by modeling on PMT-440;
  • search for entry conditions for VFC procedures on a stopped and cooled VVER-440 power unit in order to preserve the critical safety function “integrity” by modeling on PMT-440;
  • search for entry conditions for VFC procedures on a VVER-1000 power unit operating at capacity in order to preserve the critical safety function “integrity” by modeling on PMT-1000;
  • search for entry conditions for VFC procedures on a stopped and cooled VVER-1000 power unit in order to preserve the critical safety function “integrity” by modeling on PMT-1000;

 Due to the high-level experience of instructors who worked in various positions in the operation of power units, trainees were given the specifics of the experience of resolving non-trivial situations on power units.

Trainees were also instructed to operate the nuclear reactor on FSS for a certain time by connecting safety systems, etc.

The training provided is extremely informative and useful, and the materials and skills acquired will be processed within the framework of the nearest training courses to significantly deepen the level of understanding of the peculiarities of the operation of nuclear reactors by our students.

Based on the results of the training, Prof. Igor KADENKO was awarded the corresponding certificate.
